The President announced today his intent to nominate W. Robert
Pearson
to be U.S. Ambassador to the Republic of Turkey.
Mr. W. Robert Pearson, of Tennessee, a Career Member of the Senior
Foreign Service, Class of Minister-Counselor, has a broad background
in
European and Security issues as well as wide management experience
overseas
and in Washington. He arrived in Paris in July l997 to take up his
duties
as Deputy Chief of Mission of the U.S. Embassy to France. He was Deputy
Permanent Representative to NATO from l993 to l997. In l993, Mr. Pearson
served as head of the State Department's Reinventing Government team.
