HOSTETTLER VOTES TO BURY THE TAX CODE BY 2005

WASHINGTON, DC - U.S. Rep. John Hostettler (8-IN) today voted to eliminate and replace the incomprehensible, intrusive and burdensome federal tax code within the next five years.

Hostettler is an original cosponsor of H.R. 4199, which sunsets the tax code effective Dec. 31, 2004, forcing the President and Congress to begin the process of finding a replacement. The bill creates a commission that will make recommendations on how the tax code should be reformed and how the transition should occur. H.R. 4199 exempts taxes relating to Social Security and Medicare payroll taxes.
