Padres Put Tony Gwynn on DL

SAN DIEGO (AP) -- Tony Gwynn went back on the disabled list Monday due to his troublesome left knee and met with the San Diego Padres' doctor to discuss surgical options.

He didn't start the last eight games, but did make two pinch-hitting appearances. On Friday night at Cincinnati, he doubled to start the winning rally in the 10th inning, but hobbled into second base.

Gwynn, 40, has had five operations on his left knee, which is practically devoid of cartilage. He has had to have it drained several times since the start of spring training.

Gwynn met Monday afternoon with Dr. Jan Fronek to discuss options. ...
