Female Circumcision Denounced

UNITED NATIONS (AP) -- Female circumcision can be eradicated within a generation, women's rights activists say, urging governments and international organizations to move against the practice through legislation and education.

An estimated 130 million women, most of them in Africa, have been subjected to ritual genital cutting -- a figure that is believed to grow by up to 2 million each year.
