Soc: Mandela seeks support for South Africa World Cup bid

JOHANNESBURG, July 4 Reuters - Former South African president Nelson Mandela said he
was contacting two countries tomorrow to seek their support for South Africa's bid to
stage the 2006 World Cup.

"I have been asked ... to phone two countries, which I am busy with," he said in an
interview with the South African Broadcasting Corp.

"It may better for us not to ... identify the countries in public. We will be speaking to them."

Mandela said he had seen a technical report by soccer's world governing body FIFA which
ranked South Africa and Germany as "very well qualified".
