SA: Greenhouse gas emissions up

ADELAIDE, July 13 AAP - Australia's greenhouse gas emissions have risen significantly
in the eight years to 1998, figures released today showed.
The 1998 National Greenhouse Gas Inventory revealed Australia's greenhouse gas emissions
that year were up 16.9 per cent on 1990 levels and rose 5.2 per cent on 1997 levels, despite
an international commitment to limit emissions.
Federal Environment Minister Robert Hill said the rise was related to Australia's strong
economic growth and highlighted the challenge Australia faced in meeting its greenhouse
gas targets.
