We don't often announce the results of fan polls, which purport to
proclaim the greatest of something, but this week we came across a
poll with results that surprised us. The British music magazine Mojo
asked a panel of 20 songwriters for their picks for greatest pop song
of all time. The panel included Paul McCartney, Brian Wilson, Jerry
Leiber and Burt Bacharach. The number-one song they selected was
this one.
