This is NPR's MORNING EDITION. Bob Edwards is away. I'm Howard Berkes.
Vice President Al Gore and his running mate, Joe Lieberman, are in
Atlanta today joined by several governors from Southern states. The
Democrats say the event sends the message they're serious about challenging
Republican George W. Bush across the South. Yesterday Gore and Lieberman
campaigned together for the first time with stops in both their hometowns.
