William James
William James expanded his Harvard medical training to write on psychology, philosophy and religion. Works including The Varieties of Religious Experience, The Will to Believe and The Principles of Psychology made him one of Americas most important late nineteenth century thinkers. His recociliation of faith and science spawned the so-called pragmatism movement in philosophy; he is the brother of the novelist Henry James.
