William Seward
Former Secretary of State William Henry Seward was appointed to his governmental post by Lincoln. He was most famous for what was called Sewards Folly which was the purchase of Alaska from Russia. He also led the formation of the Republican Party out of the ashes of the anti-slavery Whigs.
