Vol: Aussie team s Olympic debut set to accelerate volleyball

SYDNEY, AAP - An Olympic debut in Sydney will accelerate Australian volleyball by five
years, according to national high performance manager Phil Borgeaud.

But just how long it takes for the Australians to be competitive on the world stage
may not be known until well after the smoke clears in September.

Volleyball made its Olympic debut in 1964 but Australia has never made the Games - until now.

Host status handed Australia immediate entry into the Olympic 12-team men's and women's
competition.
