(Daily Californian) (U-WIRE) BERKELEY, Calif. -- John Harsanyi, a Nobel Laureate and University of California-Berkeley professor emeritus who applied game theory to complicated social interactions, died last week at his home in Berkeley. He was 80.
An immigrant from communist Hungary, Harsanyi's great contributions to his field are matched by a reputation as a gifted thinker and a compelling personal story that spans three continents.
Harsanyi came to UC Berkeley in 1964. In 1965, he became a full professor in the business school and joined the economics faculty one year later, holding the joint appointment until 1990, when he retired.
