In the early '90s, Washington, DC, became a mecca for punk rockers.
At the center of it all was a band called Fugazi, whose political
activism and financial independence inspired a lot of young bands.
They embrace a do-it-yourself ethic, reject major labels and create
your own records, your own zines, your own culture.
