Cardinals Activate Matt Morris

ST. LOUIS (AP) -- The St. Louis Cardinals activated right-hander Matt Morris for the first time this season Sunday, one of a series of moves aimed at stabilizing the club's shaky bullpen.

The Cardinals expected Morris to be their top starter last season, until he injured his right elbow during spring training. He missed the entire season after undergoing Tommy John surgery in April 1999 to replace a torn ligament.

Morris was expected to start Sunday for Triple-A Memphis, but was activated after the St. Louis bullpen blew a two-run lead in the eighth inning Saturday against the Mets.
