One very hot day, when Grandma was a little girl in Mississippi, she sneaked into town to see if she could fry an egg on the sidewalk. When her mission was accomplished, she was very thirsty.

There was a "Whites Only" sign on a nearby fountain, but that didn't bother this child-- after all, she was wearing her clean white socks. She took off her shoes and stepped onto the stool.
