In many part of the country, rabbit populations are rapidly increasing,
mostly because these creatures tend to reproduce like, well, rabbits.
But the best-known rabbit in New England is having no such luck. Wildlife
biologists say the once common New England cottontail is now extremely
hard to find. Alarmed environmental groups have asked the US Fish
and Wildlife Service to add this rabbit to the list of species protected
by the federal government. John Nielsen has the story.
