A weekend-long film series at Harvard University to honor the 30th anniversary of the Black Panther Party kicked off with a rare screening that played to a standing-room-only audience.

The documentary "The Murder of Fred Hampton" was a gripping indictment of the law enforcement community's controversial campaign to destroy the Black Panthers in the late '60s.

Several notable personages were also no hand at the Harvard Film Archive on Thursday for a roundtable discussion following the film, lending the evening extra historical wieght.
