White Earth's Poverty Wadena's Wealth.
The winters on the White Earth reservation are, of course, not unlike any other corner of Minnesota. Bitter cold, mounds of snow, and ice bear down on the whole state holding everything, everyone hostage -- demanding patience -- enforcing a waiting game for spring.
For the Anishinabe Nation of White Earth, located in the northwest region of the state, the winter watch has an added meaning; Reservation politics are holding the community hostage. Like the literary community of Narnia, White Earth longs for their winter of discontent to thaw. They look for signs of their spring of justice to appear.
