Sometimes, when I was tired of being asked how we came to live in Zichron, I gave as the reasons a brown dog, a full moon and two bottles of local white wine. If it wasn't the whole truth, you couldn't say it was none of it. And the truth was not something I had a firm grip on. I was looking for a piece of it having to do with a woman who had been murdered either 50 years before or recently in my own imagination, and I wasn't at all sure which.
