Deal done: Baltimore City school system settlement.
A truce has finally been drawn in the prolonged struggle to secure funding for Baltimore City Public Schools.
Late Tuesday afternoon, representatives of the parties involved came to an agreement of sorts and signed a consent decree that will increase state funding for BCPS by $254 million over the next five years. Some $30 million will be made available to the troubled system as early as next year.
Though the agreement is still subject to approval by the General Assembly, the signing of the consent decree signals a new day in public education in Baltimore City.
