1971 War: Nation Failed to Make Use of Unique Win.
A surprise attack by the Pakistan Air Force on nine Indian air-fields in the Western sector on the evening of Dec. 3, 1971 marked the beginning of hostilities between the two countries in the war for the liberation of East Pakistan. It was a short war and on Dec. 16, Lt. Gen A.A.K. Niazi, commander of Pakistan's eastern army, surrendered to his Indian counterpart, Lt. Gen. J.S. Aurora, leading to the birth of a free and independent Bangladesh.
