Kwanzaa: An African American tradition.
The African American tradition Kwanzaa was created out of the philosophy of Kawaida by Dr. Maulena Karenga. It was first celebrated by him, family and friends on Dec. 26, 1966. The Kwanzaa holiday begins on Dec. 26 and lasts for seven days until Jan. 1.
The celebration of Kwanzaa is an outgrowth of aesthetic cultural integration of both continental African and the African Diaspora - elements of African culture.
