(Daily Evergreen) (U-WIRE) PULLMAN, Wash. -- Many Washington State University students have an addiction and they don't even know it. It isn't illegal drugs or even alcohol -- it's caffeine.

Linda Massey, a human nutrition professor at the WSU Spokane branch campus, has spent the past 20 years studying caffeine addiction.

Massey said people may be "caffeine dependent" if they experience withdrawal symptoms starting 24 hours after their last beverage. These symptoms include a headache, sleepiness during normal waking hours and irritability.
