Five more minutes might have saved Paul Thompson's life.
The 64-year-old retired airline pilot and La Center resident died two years ago after being stung by a bee on his 33-acre farm.
He had a bee sting kit, which contains a shot of epinephrine to counteract an allergic reaction from a bee sting.
But it was in his house. Thompson was stung while working outside to prepare for a summer party he and his wife, Dottie, threw annually.
After having a severe allergic reaction to bee stings a year before in 1997, doctors prescribed the sting kit, telling him he must take the shot 10 to 15 minutes after being stung.
