News analyst Daniel Schorr says the United States may not be ready
to write off the debt of poor countries, but it has helped developing
nations by sending food overseas.

In the Horn of Africa, where drought and war have led to widespread
famine, mass starvation may have been averted this year, thanks in
large part to America, where doing well has led to doing good. With
