Qld: Palm Island looks to future
BRISBANE, Sept 23 AAP - Palm Island had a bright future and was overcoming problems
of the past, island council deputy chair Alf Lacey said today.
The community of Palm Island, off the north Queensland coast near Townsville, is today
celebrating its Spring Festival, which will be opened by federal Aboriginal and Torres
Strait Islander Affairs Minister, Senator John Herron.
The community had in recent times been devastated by sly grogging and violence, but
was starting to fight back, Mr Lacey said.
