CARACAS, Oct. 11 (IPS) -- A 1,500-km power line to transmit
electricity from Venezuela to Brazil, a symbol of integration
between the two South American countries, is running almost two
years behind schedule due to ongoing protests by indigenous
groups attempting to block the project.
Venezuela's militarized National Guard confirmed that an
electricity pylon was knocked down early this month -- the eighth
in three weeks.
The "Coalition Against the Venezuela-Brazil Power Line" told
IPS that tomorrow protests would be held simultaneously in
Caracas and in the area where the power line is being installed.
