WA: Hospital inquiry to look at system deficiencies

PERTH, Oct 23 AAP - An inquiry originally meant to examine an apparently high rate
of stillbirths and birth defects at Western Australia's leading women's hospital will
now conduct a more general probe into possible deficiencies in the hospital's medical
practices and policies.
The King Edward Memorial Hospital (KEMH) ministerial inquiry into obstetric and gynaecological
services held a directions hearing today - three weeks after it initially had been due
to report to the WA government.
The inquiry was called in May by WA Health Minister John Day, after an independent
