LONDON, June 6 (IPS) -- Hundreds of asylum seekers living in
London are to be scattered around the country as cash strapped
London councils seek ways to cut their social welfare bills.
Westminster city council is moving over a quarter of its asylum
seekers to a private hostel in the northern city of Liverpool, and
it is likely that at least four other London councils will follow
suit.
By removing asylum seekers from expensive accommodation in the
capital and dispersing them to cheaper rooms in the regions the
local authorities hope to alleviate the cramped conditions in which
asylum seekers live while saving thousands of pounds ...
