Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan is truly a phenomenon. However hard one may try, it is difficult to escape his ubiquitous presence straddling several continents.

Lauded and lionized by countless fans, criticized and lampooned by knowledgeable music aficionados, chased by controversies and pursued by recording companies and film makers, the high priest of pop qawwali is easily the most talked-about artist at the moment.

His cassettes and CDs sell like hotcakes in India and abroad, the latest offering being Sangam in collaboration with the Urdu poet and celebrated scriptwriter of Hindi films, Javed Akhtar.
