Africa SIERRA LEONE.

Pronounced see AIR uh lee ONN the present area of Sierra Leone was marked out during the "Scramble for Africa" as Britain's Sierra Leone Colony and Protectorate in 1896. It is a small country on the west coast of Africa with an Atlantic coastline of 210 miles north to south east to west of 190 miles. It is bordered on the east by Liberia, and from the north east anti-clock-wise to the west by Guinea. Its indigenous inhabitants were Mende, Temne, Bulom, Loko, Limba, Susu and Via. The natural harbour beneath a high mountain was a trading point for the Portuguese in the 17th century. The Portuguese refer ed to it as "Lion Mountain" ...
