UNITED NATIONS, Jun. 9 (IPS) -- They may not have had a chance
to address the plenary or ad-hoc sessions of the U.N. Special
Session on Women, but indigenous women who attended the week-long
conference here say they feel optimistic that their issues will
get world attention.
One hundred indigenous women from more than 25 countries, the
largest number ever gathered at such a conference, came together
in New York to form the Indigenous Women's International Forum
(IWIF) which provides them with a united front to tackle common
issues and gives them a louder voice with which to air their
concerns.
