Playing For Time: Jewish communal groups lobby for extending term limits,. fearing an infusion of inexperienced officials will spell chaos.

In an unusual move, Jewish nonprofit organizations are taking, open role in advocating a citywide proposal on next week's ballots.

The measure, known as Proposal 2, would amend the term limit law adopted in 1993 to avoid the departure of nearly the entire City Council on Jan. 1,2001 - a circumstance the groups believe could have disastrous ramifications.
