Two Sides Of The Same Coin: When will U.S. and Israeli Jews realize they. need each other?

From the outset, the relationship between Israel and American Jewry has been bittersweet. On the one hand, Israelis saw themselves doing the hard labor of setting the land, living under the gun and writing Jewish history by their actions - something their American cousins did not share. On the other hand, they realized - even during the early days of the state, when they sought to deny the legitimacy of the diaspora as a place for Jews to live - that however independent they might feel in their sovereign state, they were dependent on American Jewry.
