Preparations are far advanced to celebrate 200 years of organized Jewish life in the U.S. Virgin Islands. The yearlong event, scheduled to begin next August, will be launched with a pilgrimage to Israel by virtually every member of the 150-family community.
The program that follows should make the historic synagogue in Charlotte Amalie, the Virgin Islands' capital, on the island of St. Thomas, a major destination for American Jews. Among the highlights are a concert by famed violinist Itzhak Perlman, a speech by U.S. Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsberg and, possibly, a Yom HaShoah ...
