A Modern Classic: Elon's Jewish law treatise illuminates our history..

Shortly after the Yom Kippur War, I wrote the following: "Professor Menachem Elon's monumental three volumes, `Jewish Law,' were published at a time when worldwide Jewry was in a depressed mood, comparable only to that of Holocaust days. That may account for the failure of many to hail the publication as an event of major significance. Yet it is precisely that, and what, in its time, may have been an inadequately celebrated occurrence will in years to come receive more and more recognition and win for its author the crown of a this-worldly immortality."
