Fear of mad cow disease continues to grip Europe as countries across
the continent discover new cases of the disease in cattle. Today,
butchers and restaurant owners in several countries joined leaders
of the European Union to try to assure people that their meat is safe.
The EU is trying to spread the word that the outbreak of mad cow
disease is under control. And as NPR's Joe Palca reports, despite
the public hysteria, the situation actually is largely under control.
