Fed: Customs intercepts fishing boat with 113 on board
MELBOURNE, Dec 16 AAP - Customs officials have intercepted a fishing boat carrying
113 asylum seekers near the Ashmore islands, about 800 kilometres west of Darwin.
Justice and Customs Minister Senator Amanda Vanstone said the 73 men, 20 women, 15
children and three infants, believed to be of Middle Eastern origin, were aboard a motorised
Indonesian fishing boat.
Five crew were also aboard.
All would be taken to the mainland by ferry and handed over to Immigration Department officials.
