Tuesday, December 19, 2000 -- The Knesset last night derailed former prime minister Binyamin Netanyahu's challenge for the Likud leadership and the premiership after Shas voted against the dissolution of the Knesset.

The Knesset voted against its dissolution by .... at 1 a.m. this morning. Before the vote, it passed the so-called Netanyahu amendment that would enable a non-Knesset member to stand for prime minister.
