WARNING ABOUT PROSTATE CANCER: African American Men Are Particularly At Risk Of Contracting The Disease
African American men contract prostate cancer 37 percent more than White men. Death rates from it are two times higher in Black men than White males.
In California, about one in eight African American males will develop prostate cancer sometime in their lifetime.
In the past year, the incidence rate of the disease increased by 57 percent in the Golden State.
While thought of as a disease that strikes men over age 65, more than 20 percent of all prostate cancer cases are diagnosed in men in their 40s and 50s.
