FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE DECEMBER 27, 2000 NOAA RESEARCH VESSEL TO BE NAMED AFTER ALASKAN OSCAR DYSON Recently passed legislation which funds the Department of Commerce provides that the next National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) fisheries research vessel be named after Alaskan Oscar Dyson and homeported in his home town of Kodiak. Oscar Dyson served on the North Pacific Fishery Management Council for nine years, retiring in 1994. Dyson worked in the fishing industry for a half-century before passing away in October 1995.
