After Columbia River's 3-2 overtime win at Hudson's Bay in the opening game of the Class 4A Greater St. Helens League girls soccer season Thursday, one fact became clear: These are not your older sister's Eagles.
Columbia River survived a relentless attack from the Eagles -- always full of promise but hampered by late-season fades -- and won what could become one of the finest games of the season.
"(Hudson's Bay) is one of the top three teams in the league," said Lynsey Haij, who scored the game-winning goal two minutes into the first overtime period for the Chiefs. "They were aggressive and quick."
