New Staffers in Awe at White House

WASHINGTON (AP) -- For weeks, Bush spokesman Ari Fleischer wouldn't allow himself to look at the White House. As the Florida election recount dragged on, superstition gripped him: He drove past the building each day, but kept his eyes pointed straight ahead, determined not to jinx George W. Bush's chances for capturing it.

But these days, on the brink of becoming White House press secretary, Fleischer lets his gaze wander over to his workplace-to-be.
