Heat follows Benton Harbor school election
By Bernice Brown
Michigan Citizen
BENTON HARBOR -- There was a small turnout of residents in the Benton Harbor Area Schools District, but a large fallout from at least one candidate in the June 9th school election. The election was to fill two vacant four-year term seats and to vote on a 2-mill property tax hike.
In unofficial results from school officials, Board President Gladys Peeples-Burks, whose term was up, came in first to regain her seat with an overpowering vote of 780.
Former Board member Carolyn A. Graves came in second with 510 votes. Graves will fill the vacant seat of Dan Ertman, who did not seek re-election.
