JUDGE GRANTS INJUNCTION BANNING SUN DANCE

Kiowa tribal elders have won their fight to keep a long-banned ceremonial dance from being performed on Kiowa land in Fort Cobb. A federal judge Friday granted an injunction barring the Sun Dance from being performed. Tribal member Vanessa Jennings had planned to bring in a Crow-Shoshoni Sun Dance priest from Montana to perform the once-sacred dance from Sunday through June 8. Tribal elders said they didn't want the Crow version of the dance performed.
