Earthquakes Shake Western Japan

TOKYO (AP) -- A series of earthquakes rattled western Japan early Saturday, but there were no reports of damage or injury.

Four quakes ranging in magnitude from 4.3 to 4.7 were centered in Hyogo prefecture, or state, 270 miles west of Tokyo, the federal Meteorological Agency said.

Magnitude 4 earthquakes can shake buildings and cause hanging objects to swing; those of magnitude 5 can damage structures.
