What is Memorial Day?

Memorial Day is a day to thank the men and women who died fighting to keep the people in the United States safe.
Some people call it Decoration Day. In most states, it is observed on the last Monday in May. This year that day is May 26.
On Memorial Day, people put flowers and flags on the graves of those who died defending the United States. There are parades in many towns with bands playing music and people marching. In some places, people go to the place the men and women are buried (cemetery).
