Ask Christine Asaro how many brothers she has, and she'll say two:
Joe and the family dog, Spunky. Ask her mom, Linda, how many children
she has, and she'll say three -- one daughter and two sons.
Yup, you guessed it -- she's counting Spunky as the third child in
this Bergen County family.
And that's not unusual. More and more of us refer to our animal
