Billy Sims Faces Court Date

TULSA, Okla. (AP) -- Billy Sims, the 1978 Heisman Trophy winner from Oklahoma, was ordered to appear in court March 21 concerning accusations he owes more than $14,000 from a 1997 child-support conviction.

Sims pleaded guilty Oct. 10, 1997, to failing to pay $32,900 in child support he owed for the support of Shawnte Renee Sims.

In January 1998, he was sentenced to a month in jail for breaking a child-support law and was ordered to make installment payments.

Sims had paid more than $18,000 by the time he was sentenced, but hasn't paid any since, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office.
