Dow and Nasdaq inch up, markets await Fed news

WASHINGTON, Jan. 31 (UPI) -- The markets were up in midday trading Wednesday, but investors remained cautious as they await the afternoon announcement from the Federal Reserve on interest rates.

In midday trading Wednesday, the blue-chip Dow Jones Industrial Average was up 19.22 points, to 10,900.42.

Meanwhile, the tech-heavy Nasdaq Composite Index was up 12.80 points to 2,851.15.

The S&P 500 was up 2.08 points to 1,375.81.

All eyes are on the Fed Wednesday as investors await a 2:15 pm announcement from the regular meeting of the Federal Open Market Committee, with the expectation that the panel will lower ...
